Mamata Banerjee Condemns Insult and Demands Transparency

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed outrage at being called a thief and confronted by derogatory remarks during a recent incident. Addressing a campaign rally for the Lok Sabha elections, Banerjee fiercely defended herself and demanded transparency from the central government.

Incident and Response:

• Banerjee recounted an incident where people pointed at her car and called her a thief, prompting her to assert that she would have taken action if it were not for the ongoing elections.

• She condemned the behavior but refrained from retaliation due to the election context, emphasizing the need for maintaining peace and order during political campaigns.

Demand for Accountability:

• Banerjee called for a detailed report, or white paper, on the investigations conducted by central teams in West Bengal. She challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s accusations of corruption within her party, insisting that no evidence of wrongdoing was found despite extensive scrutiny.

• The Chief Minister highlighted concerns regarding the utilization of MGNREGA funds, questioning the delayed payments to impoverished workers who participated in the scheme.

Criticism of BJP and Demonetization:

• Banerjee criticized the BJP, labeling it as an “anti-Bengali party” and accusing it of attempting to marginalize tribal communities, Dalits, and OBCs under the guise of the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

• She vehemently opposed the implementation of NRC in West Bengal and challenged the BJP’s agenda, especially in light of their controversial policies such as demonetization.

• The West Bengal CM pledged to prevent the implementation of NRC in the state, reiterating her commitment to safeguarding the rights of marginalized communities.

• She accused the BJP of fostering discriminatory practices and urged PM Modi to introspect before leveling accusations of corruption against her party.
